A Letter From The Editor

The countdown is on! The second Camp is on it's way, so book your time off now and be part of the festivities! This year's schedule had been refined and tweaked based on our first year experience. The first few days are completely open, for groups to team up and shoot movies, to take in all the tourist attractions of the Rapid and Mt. Rushmore area, or maybe just to party - it's up to you! Then join us daily for the REwind International Media Festival where we will be hosting screenings of the year's best no-budget movies, with many of the creators present to discuss their work. Then it concludes with our REwind Movie Awards dinner, where we honor the top picks of the year and bestow one filmmaking group with The Kid, the golden statuette of our beloved mascot. So join us and our fantastic sponsors in a week of fun and prizes this summer, hanging with all of your friends here at REwind, from around the continent! We'll see you there!

2002 RMA Nominee and Honor Listing (Honored Films are in Bold)
Category Name What Is It, Nominated Movies
The REwind
Feature of The Year
Our highest honor, the recipient production group has demonstrated excellence in storytelling on many levels, reflected in the below categories. To this incredible crew we bestow The Kid, a golden statuette of our mascot. It is the only Kid given out each year!

Hall Of Mirrors
- The Robert Cake - Lethal Force - After Midnight

The REwind
Short of The Year
For movies less than 45 minutes we recognize the achievement of storytelling in the short form. The recipient group of this award has excelled in several of the elements of storytelling, reflected in their short film or video.

Beautiful Zelda - Gauntlet 216 - Inquisition - Yearbook

Director of The Year
From an idea to a completed project, one person maintains a creative vision throughout. We award this title to REwind's auteur of the year, who has demonstrated the knowledge and talent it takes to create a great movie.

Brad Osbourne (Hall of Mirrors) - Anthony Stella (The Robert Cake)
C.C. Chapman (Inquisition) - Warren Blyth (Gauntlet 216)
Mike Amato (After Midnight)

Story of The Year
Every production begins with a story. It usually takes the form of a treatment or script, though often an amateur group may produce an entire movie on just an idea. Regardless of how it was formed, REwind will extend this award for one incredibly compelling/exciting/unique/funny story this year!

Pervert Goes Home - The Robert Cake - Inquisition - After Midnight

Actress of The Year
Focusing on the lead female performer, REwind watches for the finest performance that carries the story! We look for truthful moments and great portrayals, and always regret having to choose only one from a year of incredible talent.

April Cresey (After Midnight)
- Julie Arebalo (Hall Of Mirrors)
Cassie Ross (Inquisition) - Chelsea Johnston (Lady of The Dead)

Actor of The Year
The lead male performer can achieve this honor through great performance and knowledge (or perhaps blind talent!) of the acting craft. It won't be easy for us to decide on a sole recipient, with more and more incredible actors coming out of the woodwork every month!

Eric Vale (Hall Of Mirrors) - Kevin Vasconcelos (After Midnight)
Jeremy Gardner (The Robert Cake) - Billy Franks (Track 16)

Supporting Actress
of The Year
Upon the female performer who is not the lead, but shines nonetheless, REwind will bestow this title. We look for great portrayals that move the story along, and applicable roles are anything other than the lead performance.

Bobbi Ashton (Track 16) - Lisa Renley (Pervert Goes Home)
Natalie Sanders (The Robert Cake) - Michelle Caruso (Excaliburger)

Supporting Actor
of The Year
From the understated friend to the intense scene-stealing role, REwind's choice of the finest supporting actor will receive this new title! Any role other than the lead is applicable in this category.

Chris Frommeyer (The Robert Cake)
- Steve Sherrick (Inquisition)
Ryan Erke (Pervert Goes Home) - David Harscheid (Concealment)

Documentary of The Year
This is a brand new category this year, after we discovered a growing number of entries in this unique and wonderful form last year. REwind's pick for the best non-fictional production of the year will receive this title.

Guardian Of The Trestle - The Rifflementary
Groins Of Darkness - Turista: 7 Days In Castro's Cuba

Award of Excellence
in Original Music
Since the beginning of the REwind Awards, the number of composers working in the no-budget spirit has exploded! This unique award is dedicated to the best composer of music for an amateur production.

Luke Stark (After Midnight) - John Brugmann (Vicious Circle)
Edgen (Yearbook) - Brad Osbourne (Hall of Mirrors)
Ryan Winford (The Robert Cake)

Award of Excellence
in Cinematography
More than just shooting, cinematography includes creative lighting, unique and effective shot choices, and excellence in exposing great pictures to film or video. REwind is looking for visuals that reflect and enhance the mood of a movie!

The Robert Cake - After Midnight - Inquisition - Lethal Force

Award of Excellence
in Editing
The order, timing and choice of shots that make the final cut of a movie directly affect it's mood, it's pacing, and it's impact. We focus on the creativity of the edit moreso than the technical, watching for clever exposition techniques, solid knowledge of aesthetics, and unique new ideas.

Gauntlet 216 - Yearbook - Running With Scootie - Track 16

Award of Excellence
in Visual Effects
Covering any type of visual effect, this honor goes to the movie which in our opinion has executed the most effective trick (or tricks) on the eye. It can range from CG to in-camera effects, to even make-up!

Concealment - The Robert Cake - Inquisition - Lethal Force

Award of Excellence
in Sound Design
The soundscape of a movie is often overlooked in no-budget films, however in a select bunch we find rich and full audio that pulls us into the movie. Everything, ranging from great source recording, to sound effects, to the final mix, is taken into account when REwind chooses the recipient of this award.

Hall Of Mirrors - Lethal Force - Track 16 - Beautiful Zelda

Award of Excellence
in Production Design
This award is given to the production featuring great detail in properties, set design, costumes and practicals. It includes all the little things that make the scenes great, from an extravangant set to accurate period costumes, or any other physical additions to a movie beyond those normally seen in no-budget productions.

After Midnight - Hall Of Mirrors - Gauntlet 216 - Lethal Force

Trailer of The Year
A particularly fun category, we recognize our choice promotional trailer of the year! A unique quality of this category is that the film the trailer is promoting need not yet be produced. In fact, it need not ever be produced! If the production is then completed after the RMA's, it is still applicable for the following year's festivities. (Though the trailer will not be.)

The Robert Cake - Pervert Goes Home - Pikachu 2 - Lethal Force

Rookie of The Year
A special new category this year, we welcome one of many gifted new REwinders with recognition of a great debut project.
